RSS launches modular work zone protection system for safer long-term construction sites

Roadside Services and Solutions is proud to unveil a new modular Work Zone Protection System, engineered to provide superior safety, flexibility, and efficiency for long-term demolition, building, and construction projects.
Workplace safety is a top priority for businesses, particularly at high-risk locations such as truck loading bays, main site entry points, and zones adjacent to major roadways or busy pedestrian areas.
RSS Chief Executive Officer Craig Woods says, traditional solutions rely heavily on interlocking concrete barriers, often weighing up to 4.5 tonnes each, topped with fencing, scaffolding, hoarding, or pedestrian gates.
“These systems, while effective, require significant space, are labour-intensive, and offer limited flexibility.
“In contrast, Roadside’s innovative system incorporates a South Australia Department of Infrastructure and Transport-approved TL-0 Energy Absorbing Bollard (EAB), rated at 50kph, acting as a leading end terminal. This connects to a Non-Redirective Crash Attenuator, forming the foundation of a customised Non-Deforming Bollard (NDB) and Steel Mesh Screen treatment,” Craig Woods says.
These 2-metre long modular assemblies are removable, lockable, and linked to span the required work zone. The result is a compact, high-performance solution that requires just a 150mm width footprint, compared to the 600mm base of traditional concrete barriers.
Key benefits include:
- Compact design – saves valuable space on site
- Easy installation/removal – by just two workers, no extraordinary WZTM (work zone management) required
- Rapid site access – ideal for urgent or temporary removals, including night time operations
- High visibility & durability – powder-coated steel components and solar-powered flashing lights
- Reusable infrastructure – can be relocated to future sites with minor modifications
All components – including the EABs, NDBs, screens, gates and fences are designed, engineered, and assembled in South Australia, at Roadside Services and Solutions (RSS) Lonsdale-based Engineering Workshop, Civil Works Depot, and Sign Manufacturing Facility.
“This is a forward-thinking solution for long-term projects that require compliant, functional, and cost-effective work zone protection,’’ Craig Woods says.
