Protecting pedestrians, drivers, assets and infrastructure

Protect pedestrians, assets, and infrastructure with sturdy and compliant bollards. Energy Absorbing Bollards (EAB) are capable of absorbing kinetic energy during a collision, minimising injuries for the driver and protecting pedestrians and property.

We can supply your EABs with a detailed installation manual, or our team can install your bollards to meet the requirements of your location.

Our Energy Absorbing Bollards are:

  • Designed to reduce injuries for drivers in the event of a collision
  • Effectively protect pedestrians, assets and infrastructure
  • Crash tested and safety rated for impacts up to 60 km/h

Energy Absorbing Bollard applications

Impact absorbing bollards can be installed in a wide variety of locations to ensure public safety. Our EAB solutions include:

  • Protection for outdoor dining areas, public spaces, pedestrians and assets
  • Options to suit high-speed and low-speed areas
  • Retractable EABs for areas where authorised vehicle access is required

Impact Absorbing Bollards in action

63 bollards at a Whittlesea intersection

Overview

VicRoads needed Energy Absorbing Bollards as part of a new raised pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Plenty and Wallan Roads in Whittlesea.

Solution

We were contracted by Bitu-mill to supply and install 63 EABs to ensure pedestrian safety at the crossing. We liaised with the other contractors involved to schedule an installation date which suited the client, and we delivered the installation on time.

The EABs are rated to withstand an impact of up to 60 km/h.

Frequently asked questions

EABs are designed to bend to a particular degree to absorb some of the kinetic energy in a collision. The angle of the EAB also means the front axle of the vehicle will be lifted off the ground, further deflecting kinetic energy and pushing vehicle occupants back into their seat instead of forward into the dashboard or steering wheel.

The result is pedestrians are fully protected from errant vehicles, and the risk of injuries and death is significantly reduced for drivers.
