About the Rundle Mall project

Adelaide City Council needed a physical barrier to protect people in Rundle Mall, a pedestrian-only shopping precinct in Adelaide’s CBD. The solution needed to suit the strict criteria and time frame set by Adelaide City Council.

Problems to solve
  • Preventing errant vehicles from endangering pedestrians
  • Allowing authorised access for service vehicles
  • Meeting the strict time frame set by Adelaide City Council

We can meet the challenges of any project.

Our solution

Our team delivered and installed Energy Absorbing Bollards (EAB), both fixed and retractable, at both ends of Rundle Mall. We installed 26 EABs, including six retractable EABs, in the initial phase of the project—and we did it within a window of 15 days. In the next three months, we installed another 28 EABs on the side streets surrounding Rundle Mall.

During the installation, we coordinated with a number of subcontractors and utilised a range of safety products to ensure safe conditions for workers and pedestrians. The final result is compliant with all relevant Australian standards and ensures safety for everyone who uses Rundle Mall.

How we overcame project challenges

The final result

The final result of the Rundle Mall project was a safe pedestrian precinct, delivered in a short period of time. Our EABs and installation also met all the requirements of the DPTI and Adelaide City Council, providing a compliant solution.

We are proud to have made Rundle Mall a safer place for pedestrians, traders and motorists. We even received a letter of recognition from the Lord Mayor of Adelaide Martin Haese.
