Gus Simpson might be considered young, not even hit the teenage years yet, but here’s a young man with grit and go in him to fund his passion to be a motocross champion, and the Northern Territory RSS team is backing him all the way.

Meet Gus Simpson, he’s 12 years old and what one would describe as Territory Tough. Yes hailing from Darwin, Gus started riding motorbikes in 2021, competing in his first motocross race in 2022 at the Sand Track at Top End Motocross Club.

Gus has big ambitions in motocross and he needed to find ways of funding this passion.

Gus’s mum Jodie Simpson came up with the idea to build motocross clocks to raise money to help fund the motocross expenses.

Herein started Gus’s MX Clocks which he sells through social media https://www.facebook.com/share/17BPxjT3yJ/?mibextid=wwXIfr. Not only does Gus make and sell all sizes of clocks, prints and designs for motocross, but he’s also creating road bike tyre designs to add to his collection.

Coming in on the scene, Roadside Services and Solutions (RSS) Darwin operations is  helping Gus make his clocks and motocross collections.

Gus Simpson says: “RSS has helped me grow my business with products and support to install the pictures.

“The goal for my business in 2025 is to raise enough money to get new Alpine Star boots and a new Alpine Star helmet in time for AJMX,” Gus Simpson says.

Gus is also actively fundraising for his teammates selling raffle tickets and meat tray raffle tickets.

RSS Managing Director Craig Woods, says he can spot talent and a hard worker a mile off and knew he was backing a winner here both on and off the track.

“It was our absolute pleasure to offer Gus and his mum the printing, artwork and laminating facilities and tools so he could make his clocks.

“Now Gus and his mum come in with their artwork ready to transfer to the metal plates and under the guidance of our signmaker Chai, Gus is making professional clocks in our workshop for the orders he’s getting.

“We just might have our new apprentice in the making in a few years’ time and he’ll already have learned the ropes with us supporting his own entrepreneurial business,” Craig Woods said.

Goals on the track

Gus’s best achievement to date has been taking first place in the Northern Territory Titles at Alice Springs in 2024.

He is a member of the NT Thunder MX team which competes in the Australian Junior Motocross Championships.

This year the team is competing in Gillman in South Australia.

“My motocross goal for 2025 is to get a podium finish at most of my local race meets and aim to qualify at the AJMX.

“I will be racing against 70-80 riders in my class,” Gus Simpson says.
