Roadside Services and Solutions (RSS) has successfully completed a major perimeter security upgrade at St Agnes Primary School, delivered on behalf of the Department for Education (DfE) under Ventia’s management.

The project forms part of the State Government’s ongoing program to enhance safety, security and site functionality across South Australian education facilities.

As a prequalified Ventia installer of security fencing and gates, RSS was engaged to replace the school’s ageing boundary fencing with a modern, durable and fully compliant system that meets current Education Security Design Standards.

A comprehensive and compliant scope of works

The existing fencing, no longer compliant with DfE requirements, was removed and replaced with approximately 300 linear metres of CrowdTuff Flat Top 1500mm high tubular security fencing. The upgrade improves perimeter protection, enhances controlled access, and significantly lifts the presentation of the school boundary.

The full scope of works included:

  1. Removal and disposal of old, non‑compliant fencing
  2. Removal and mulching of obstructive shrubs and non‑significant trees
  3. Installation of 1500mm high tubular flat‑top security fencing
  4. Installation of five personnel access gates with self‑closing hinges and MagnaLatch locks
  5. Installation of one 3.5m double‑leaf vehicle gate with drop bolts and slide bolts
  6. Preparation for one 6.0m automated cantilever sliding gate, including Beninca 1224 operator, intercom, Integriti system connection, safety bollards and warning signage

All works were completed in accordance with Australian Standards, the National Construction Code, and DfE guidelines.

Timeline and delivery

The project started on 17 November 2025 with an onsite stakeholder meeting to confirm scope and methodology. Roadside completed all fencing installation and site works by 18 December 2025, ensuring minimal disruption to school operations.

Installation and commissioning of the automated cantilever gate and access control system were completed by allied contractors in early 2026.

Roadside acknowledges the valued support of local suppliers and contractors, including:

  • Bluedog Fences
  • Adelaide Arborists
  • Qest Infrastructure (Service Location)
  • ACE Automation (Cantilever Gate & Automation)
  • Australian Integrated Security (Access Control)

Navigating onsite challenges

The team successfully managed several common but critical challenges, including:

  • Avoiding underground power, communication and water services
  • Maintaining pedestrian safety and crowd control
  • Ensuring uninterrupted access to the staff carpark during school hours
  • Coordinating multiple allied service providers

A high‑quality outcome for the school community

The project’s greatest achievement is the delivery of an aesthetically pleasing, durable and fully compliant security fencing system that meets the expectations of Ventia and the Department for Education.

The upgraded boundary now provides improved safety, enhanced security, better site presentation and greater functionality across the St Agnes Primary School precinct, supporting a safer environment for students, staff and visitors.
