New apprentice begins career with RSS

Roadside Services and Solutions (RSS) is proud to welcome its newest recruit, 18-year-old Hugh Davies, to the team at its Lonsdale operations in South Australia.
Hugh officially joined the company on 19 May 2025, marking the start of an exciting career journey as RSS’s first Production Employee – Apprentice.
A recent graduate of Urrbrae Agricultural High School, Hugh had been searching for a role that would offer both professional growth and long-term career prospects. When RSS’s maintenance and project manager, Warrick Stirling, met Hugh through RSS managing director Craig Woods, everything aligned perfectly.
Impressed by Hugh’s positive attitude, focus, and strong motivation to learn, Warrick saw great potential in the young recruit and has taken on the role of his mentor.
To formally support Hugh’s development, RSS is now in the process of enrolling him in the MEM30219 Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade. This nationally recognised qualification will equip Hugh with the skills and knowledge required to become a qualified fitter and turner, adding significant value to RSS’s expanding engineering services.
Recently representatives from Mas National visited RSS’s Lonsdale site to meet with Hugh and Warrick to commence the apprenticeship paperwork. The company is also partnering for the first time with the Adelaide Training & Employment Centre (ATEC), which will provide training support throughout Hugh’s apprenticeship.
“We’re committed to fostering skill development through meaningful employment that contributes to the communities in which we operate,” Craig Woods says.
“This initiative with Hugh marks an exciting step forward, not just for him personally, but also for our company as we continue to invest in future talent.”
The MEM30219 Certificate III in Engineering is a comprehensive program that prepares apprentices for careers in the metal, engineering, manufacturing, and associated industries.
Delivered over approximately 3.5 to 4 years, the apprenticeship combines theoretical study, self-paced learning, and hands-on training both on-site and at trade school. Hugh will work closely with an ATEC Case Manager to develop a tailored training plan that meets both his needs and those of the business.
Hugh’s journey reflects RSS’s broader commitment to nurturing the next generation of skilled professionals while strengthening its capacity to deliver high-quality engineering services. The company looks forward to supporting Hugh every step of the way as he embarks on this promising new chapter.
